> RAID - Configuration and Implementation The
concept of RAID is simple in that it is just a technology that is used
for the implantation of different disk drives or the logical combination
of the different physical disk drives. Also the term RAID stands for the
"Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks”. Hence it’s so
simple. But the simple term, the complex is the implementation of it.
Similarly the configuration and the implementation of the RAID are also
a complex and the most difficult task that has to be performed before
the usage of the system. But also the advantages are also obvious. There
are many advantages of using the RAID servers. The first and the foremost
among them are the reliability and the performance. The next important
are the stability and the fault tolerance of the system. The implementation of the RAID depends fairly on the implementation of the array of the RAID. The RAID array unless and until properly implemented cannot contribute the required results that are expected from the implementation of the RAID. The important thing is also the hardware required in the installation of the RAID. The hardware is the controller probably called as the RAID controller that is used for the proper configuration and the installation of the RAID. Even then comes the process of the RAID Levels cannot be neglected or avoided; since these are the levels that are considered for the further improvement in the performance of the RAID. At the time of considering the process of configuration and the installation of the RAID; the different levels of the RAID seem more confusing. But the issues involved in the configuration and the installation of the RAID levels are also important and the RAID arrays and the various constraints that are involved in the implementation. The implementation of the RAID arrays includes the hardware and the software as well as the RAID controllers etc. The other most important things in the consideration for the configuration and the installation of the RAID are the issues involved in the interfacing of the RAID controllers, the selection of the criteria for the disk drives and also the future management and the maintenance of the RAID system. The subject also involves the exploration of some of the advanced features of the RAID. These are the features that are considered as important or critical to the RAID. For example the features may include the setting up of a high availability array. The other examples may include the following as such the hot spares as well as the concept of the disk drive swapping.
