Home > Single RAID Level

Here in the section the detailed description and the vital and subtle points regarding the Single RAID Levels are discussed in the detail. These are nothing but the regular RAID levels. They are such as opposed to the multiple RAID levels or the nested RAID levels. The Single RAID levels are usually the most important and also the most commonly used. It is because of the fact that they are simpler ones in the implementation. At the same time they are less expensive as in contrast with the others in terms of the implementation. Most of the users find it easy to implant and use the systems. More over the RAID levels are satisfying in the terms of the requirements of the users that specifically utilize the services of the RAID. In general, the multiple levels of the RAID requirement have only very high end applications. More over the multiple levels RAID are also used for the special applications etc.

When we specifically discuss about the RAID there are about eight regular levels in the RAID. The extent of the application is different in the various fields such as its application in the various degrees of the real world applications. Some of the most popular ones are the RAID 5, RAID 1 and the RAID 0. They are used in most of the RAID server systems and more over they are the levels stands out in the unique features of the RAID. Some of the other levels in the RAID are the RAID 2, RAID 6 etc that are rarely used due to some of the discrepancies found in them.

Most of the properties or the features of the RAID include the attributes for which it is famous and widely used such as the fault tolerant systems and the performance of the systems. The Single RAID Levels also provide the capacity for the fault tolerance by providing the features such as the parity check and the other features etc.

The Single RAID Levels include the following specifically that are: RAID Level 0, RAID Level 1, RAID Level 2, RAID Level 3, RAID Level 4, RAID Level 5, RAID Level 6, and RAID Level 7. In the RAID Level 0 the technique used is that of the data stripping with out parity. This is the level which is also called as the “AID”. The storage efficiency is 100% and at least a minimum of two hard disks are required. In the RAID Level 1 the technique used is that of the duplexing or the mirroring. There is 50% efficiency in the storage. In the RAID Level 2 the technique used is the Bit level striping along with the Hamming code - ECC.

The storage efficiency is about 71 to 82%. In the RAID Level 3 the technique used is the Byte level striping along with the dedicated parity. The next level of the RAID includes the RAID Level 4 which utilizes the technique of the Block level striping along with the dedicated parity. In the next level of the RAID that is the RAID Level 5 the technique involved is the Block level striping along with the distributed parity.

The second last stage in the RAID Levels is the RAID Level 6 that has the technique of the Block level striping along with the dual distributed parity check. And the last level of the RAID is the RAID Level 7 that has the technique of the asynchronous cached striping along with the dedicated parity check. The al most all the levels in the RAID are independent and the multiple nesting of the RAID levels can also be performed. The efficiency of the RAID Level 7 is usually dependent on the implementation of the RAID. All the levels in the RAID are discussed above.
