RAID Installation on Windows Servers

The following procedure should be followed for RAID Installation on Windows 2000 Servers, it is as follows: First, Insert the Microsoft Windows 2000 installation CD drive of the server and then start rebooting the server. Then press F6 when you see the blue screen to check for the Windows 2000 RAID Mini-port Installation Driver diskette can be loaded. Microsoft Windows 2000 will find the storage devices in the system. As soon as the device detection is completed, then press s to specify if at all any additional storage devices is to be installed. Then insert the Windows 2000 RAID Mini-port Installation Driver diskette into your floppy drive and hit Enter. The arrow keys are there to select the mini-port driver of your RAID Controller.

Then press Enter to continue. As soon as your driver information is ready, leave the floppy diskette in the disk drive and press the Enter button to continue the Windows 2000 setup. Once the Windows 2000 text-based installation is completed, then the system is system is ready to reboot, and remove the floppy diskette from the disk drive. Then leave the Windows 2000 Installation CD in the drive and then reboot the system to the hard drive to complete the Operating System installation. If at all you have plan to remotely control the RAID subsystem then ensure that you are installing the following components: TCP/IP, Internet Information Services, After the installation is completed remove the Windows* 2000 CD and start rebooting the system again.

After your system is rebooted, insert the Registry Update floppy diskette into the floppy drive and open a window to the A drive and double click on the RAID_Reg_Update.reg file.

Then the Windows 2000 Server registry will automatically be updated. As soon as Windows 2000 Server updated is completed the registry is updated, remove the floppy diskette and reboot the server. The procedure of install the OSM Driver, First insert the RAID Controller floppy into the floppy drive and then extract the driver package to a folder on the local hard drive the remove the floppy diskette from the floppy drive. From the folder on your hard drive, run the Setup program. The runtime driver will replace the mini-port driver and update older drivers if they exist.

Then comes the procedure to install RAID Configuration Utilities: Install the RAID Controller Utilities. The instructions are given on the support.intel.com website to extract the installation files.
